dear bandom,

shut the fuck up and stop wanking. triggering is an extremely important issue, and shouldn't just be cast aside like some people are doing. but honestly, is this much wank really needed? who, exactly, does it hurt to put a warning on a fic? to say, 'warning, some non-con'? really?

let me clear this up: i'm fully of the opinion for warnings on fic. but i believe that just saying, "oh, could you put a warning up? thanks, that's sort of a trigger," is a fine way of asking for one if it hasn't been done. there's no need to be prissy little bitches about it, which i'm not sure anyone has been. (i only found out about this yesterday and i've been trying to figure out what the fuck's been going on. which, now that i have, all i can say is: "ugh, bandom") now, as for the people who respond negatively to the polite request for a warning, fuck you. and that's all i realy have to say there.

i just feel like people take this shit way too seriously. (and by that, i mean the people who are saying that warnings are totally unnecessary because books/movies/etc don't have them. this is bandom, people. it's just a request, not a declaration of nuclear war or something.) i've never been a person who's sympathetic to people who are unbending solely on the basis of their pride, and i'm not going to start now. (which is not to say i'm not a stubborn little shit. don't get me wrong here, i am so unrelentingly stubborn sometimes. i just don't do it because of pride.) put up a warning, stop fucking whining about it, and move on. movies and books don't have warnings on them because they're different from bandom. bandom is an internet-based, (mostly) tightly knit community that has very different standards than movies, or books, or fucking cake--whatever analogy you're using now. maybe movies and books and, fuck it, layered cake should have warnings. that's not the issue here. the issue here is triggering; impertinence posted a very brave post about her issues with nonconsensual sex here (unlurkster reminded me to post the trigger warning included; warning: very explicit discussion of sexual assault and the nature, anatomy, cause & effect of triggers. is itself triggery.). read it, try to understand that bandom needs to warn people for their triggers. it's just basic human decency. refraining from putting up a warning is sort of like turning on a strobe light and not telling the epileptic person to leave the room. (hi, pot, meet kettle. what? analogies can be helpful.)

and now, i'm going to go take my own advice and chill out.
